SOVEREIGNTY
مالِكُ المُلكِ / The Master of Sovereignty
1ـ رسولُ اللهِِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): اِشتَدَّ غضَبُ اللّهِ على مَن زَعَمَ أنّهُ مَلِكُ الأملاكِ، لا مَلِكَ إلّا اللّهُ.
1– The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘The anger of Allah intensifies towards he who claims that he owns sovereignty, as there is no sovereign other than Allah.’

2ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): كلُّ مالِكٍ غَيرَهُ مَملوكٌ.
2– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Every sovereign other than Him is himself owned.’

3ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): لا تُكثِرَنَّ الدُّخولَ علَى المُلوكِ؛ فإنّهُم إن صَحِبتَهُم مَلُّوكَ، وإن نَصَحتَهُم غَشُّوكَ .
3– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Do not visit kings too much, for if you befriend them they will become bored of you, and if you advise them they will deceive you.’

4ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): المَكانَةُ مِن المُلوكِ مِفتاحُ المِحنَةِ وبَذرُ الفِتنَةِ .
4– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Status with kings is the key to misfortune and a seed for trial.’

5ـ الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): ليسَ لِلبَحرِ جارٌ،ولا للمَلِكِ صَديقٌ، ولا للعافِيَةِ ثَمَنٌ.
5– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘There is no neighbour for the sea, no friend for a king, and no price for health.’

خَيرُ المُلوكِ / The Best of Kings
6ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): أجَلُّ المُلوكِ مَن مَلَكَ نفسَهُ وبَسَطَ العَدلَ.
6– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The noblest of kings is he who rules his own self and spreads justice.’

7ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): خَيرُ المُلوكِ مَن أماتَ الجَورَ وأحيا العَدلَ.
7– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The greatest of kings is he who kills oppression and revives justice.’

8ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): أحسَنُ المُلوكِ حالاً مَن حَسُنَ عَيشُ النّاسِ في عَيشِهِ، وعَمَّ رعِيَّتَهُ بعَدلِهِ .
8– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The king who has the best status is he who shares his good life with people, and encompasses his subjects with his justice.’

9ـ الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): أفضَلُ المُلوكِ مَن اُعطِيَ ثلاثَ خِصالٍ: الرّأفةَ، والجُودَ، والعَدلَ .
9– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘The best of kings is he who has been given three features: affection, generosity, and justice.’

المَلِكُ / The King
10ـ رسولُ اللهِِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): أشقَى النّاسِ المُلوكُ .
10– The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘The most wretched of people are the kings.’
[Mishkat al-Anwar, p. 226]
11ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): حَقٌّ علَى المَلِكِ أن يَسوسَ نفسَهُ قَبلَ جُندِهِ .
11– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘A king is worthier of having mastery over himself before his soldiers.’

12ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): مَن جَعَلَ مُلكَهُ خادِماً لدِينِهِ انقادَ لَهُ كلُّ سُلطانٍ، مَن جَعَلَ دِينَهُ خادِماً لمُلكِهِ طَمِعَ فيهِ كلُّ إنسانٍ .
12– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Whoever makes his sovereignty subservient to his religion, all rulers will submit to him. And whoever makes his religion subservient to his sovereignty then all people will become greedy for it
[i.e. his sovereignty].’

13ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): آفـةُ المُـلوكِ سُوءُ السِّيرَةِ، آفـةُ الوُزَراءِ خُـبـثُ السَّريرَةِ.
13– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The downfall of kings is bad comportment, and the downfall of ministers is evil hearts.’

14ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): إذا بُني المُلك على قَواعِدِ العَدلِ ودَعَمَ بدعائمِ العَقلِ، نَصَرَ اللّهُ مُوالِيَهُ وخَذَلَ مُعادِيَهُ.
14– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘When a king builds on the foundations of justice and bases
[his rule] on the pillars of reason, then Allah will make his followers victorious and will desert his enemies.’
