اللَّغوُ / Vain Talk

1ـ رسولُ اللهِ‏ِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): أعظَمُ النّاسِ قَدراً مَن تَركَ ما لا يَعنيهِ.
1– The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘The worthiest person is he who leaves whatever does not concern him.’
[Amali al-Saduq, p. 28, no. 4]

2ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): كُلُّ قَولٍ لَيسَ للّه‏ِ فيهِ ذِكرٌ فلَغوٌ.
2– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Any talk that does not have the remembrance of Allah therein is vain’.

3ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): لا تَعَرَّضْ لِما لا يَعنيكَ بِتَركِ ما يَعنيكَ .
3– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Do not interfere with things that do not concern you by abandoning things that do concern you.’
[Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 7, no. 59]

4ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) ـ مِن كِتابٍ لَهُ إلى عبدِاللّه‏ِ بنِ العبّاسِ ـ: أمّا بَعدُ، فاطلُبْ ما يَعنيكَ واترُكْ ما لا يَعنيكَ ؛ فإنّ في تَركِ ما لا يَعنيكَ دَركَ ما يَعنيكَ .
4– Imam Ali (AS), in a letter he wrote to `Aabdullah b. `Aabbas, said, ‘Seek what concerns you and leave whatever does not concern you, for in leaving that which does not concern you, you will perceive the things that do concern you.’

5ـ الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) ـ في قولهِ تعالى: «والّذينَ هُمْ عَنِ اللَّغوِ مُعْرِضونَ» ـ: هُو أن يَتَقَوّلَ الرّجُلُ علَيكَ بالباطِلِ، أو يأتِيَكَ بما لَيسَ فيكَ، فتُعرِضَ عَنهُ للّه‏ِ . وفي روايةٍ اُخرى: إنّهُ الغِناءُ والمَلاهي.
5– Imam al-Sadiq (AS), with regard to Allah’s verse in the Qur’an: "Who avoid vain talk", said, ‘It means that when someone fabricates falsities about you or says something about you that is not true and you turn away from it for the sake of Allah.’ In another narration, he said, ‘It is singing and amusement.’
