FAIRNESS




الإنصافُ / Fairness

1ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): الإنصافُ أفضَلُ الشِّيَمِ.
1– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Fairness is the best of characteristics.’
[Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 971]

2ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): الإنصافُ يُؤلِّفُ القُلوبَ.
2– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Fairness brings harmony between hearts.’

3ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): بالنَّصفَةِ تَدومُ الوُصلَةُ .
3– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘With fairness relationships last.’
[Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 4190]

4ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): بالنَّصفَةِ يَكثُرُ المُواصِلونَ .
4– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘With fairness relations are increased.’
[Nahj al-Balagha, Saying 224]

5ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): زَكاةُ القُدرَةِ الإنصافُ .
5– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The zakat of power is fairness.’
[Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 5448]

6ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) ـ في قولهِ تعالى «إنَّ اللّه‏َ يَأمُرُ بالعَدْلِ والإحْسانِ» ـ: العَدلُ: الإنصافُ، والإحسانُ: التَّفَضُّلُ.
6– Imam al-Baqir (AS), with regard to Allah’s verse in the Qur’an: "Indeed Allah enjoins justice and kindness"1155, said, ‘Justice is fairness, and kindness is courteousness.’
[Qur’an 16: 90]

7ـ الإمامُ الباقرُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): لا عَدلَ كالإنصافِ .
7– Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘There is no justice like fairness.’
[Nahj al-Balagha, Saying 231]

الحَثُّ عَلى إنصافِ مَن لا يُنصِفُ / Enjoinment of Fairness towards Those who are not fair

8ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): المؤمِنُ يُنصِفُ مَن لا يُنصِفُهُ.
8– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘A believer is fair to one who is not fair to him.’
[Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 165, no. 1]

9ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): أعدَلُ النّاسِ مَن أنصَفَ مَن ظَلَمَهُ.
9– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The most just of people is he who is fair towards those who oppress him.’
[Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 3186]

10ـ الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): صِلْ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ ... واَنصِفْ مَن خاصمك.
10– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘It is not of fairness to demand fairness from brothers.’

الاِنتِصافُ مِنَ النَّفسِ / Fairness in Spite of Oneself

11ـ رسولُ اللهِ‏ِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): مَن واسَى الفَقيرَ، وأنصَفَ النّاسَ مِن نَفسِهِ، فذلكَ المؤمِنُ حَقّاً.
11– The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘Whoever is charitable towards a poor person, and is fair towards people in spite of himself, then he is the true believer.’
[al-Khisal, p. 47, no. 48]

12ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): أنصَفُ النّاسِ مَن أنصَفَ مِن نَفسِهِ مِن غَيرِ حاكِمٍ علَيهِ .
12– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The fairest of people is he who is fair in spite of himself without someone judging over him.’
[Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 3345]

13ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): ألا إنّهُ مَن يُنصِفُ النّاسَ مِن نَفسِهِ لَم يَزِدْهُ اللّه‏ُ إلّا عِزّاً .
13– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Indeed he who is fair to people in spite of himself, Allah will only increase him in dignity.’
[al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 144, no. 4]

14ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): حَسْبُ المَرءِ ... من عَقلِهِ إنصافُهُ مِن نَفسِهِ ... ومِن إنصافِهِ قَبولُهُ الحَقَّ إذا بانَ لَهُ .
14– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘It is enough for a person … endowed with intellect to be fair
[to others] in spite of himself … and
[for a person] endowed with fairness to accept the truth when it becomes clear to him.’
[Kashf al-Ghamma, v. 3, p. 137-138]

15ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) ـ في عَهدِهِ إلى مالِكٍ الأشترِ ـ: أنصِفِ اللّه‏َ وأنصِفِ النّاسَ مِن نَفسِكَ ومِن خاصَّةِ أهلِكَ ومَن لكَ فيهِ هَوىً مِن رَعيّتِكَ، فإنَّكَ إلّا تَفعَلْ تَظلِمْ ! ...
15– Imam Ali (AS), in his letter to Malik al-Ashtar said, ‘…be fair for Allah and be fair to people in spite of yourself, and in spite of your close members of your family, and in spite of those towards whom you have inclinations from among your followers, for if you do not do so you will be oppressing.’
[Nahj al-Balagha, Letter 53]

16ـ الإمامُ الباقرُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): إنّ للّه‏ِ جَنَّةً لا يَدخُلُها إلّا ثَلاثَةٌ، أحَدُهُم مَن حَكَم في نَفسِهِ بالحَقِّ .
16– Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Allah has a Heaven that no one enters other than three kinds of people: one of them is he who judges himself with truth.’
[al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 148, no. 19]

مَن لا يَنتَصِفُ / Those who are not fair

17ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): ثَلاثَةٌ لا يَنتَصِفونَ مِن ثَلاثَةٍ أبَداً: العاقِلُ مِن الأحمَقِ، والبَرُّ مِن الفاجِرِ، والكَريمُ مِن اللَّئيمِ .
17– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘There are three types of people who cannot expect fairness from three other types of people: an intelligent man from a fool, a righteous man from a corrupt man, and a kind man from a vile man.’

18ـ الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): لا يَنتَصِفُ البَرُّ مِن الفاجِرِ، لا يَنتَصِفُ عالِمٌ مِن جاهِلٍ.
18– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘A righteous man cannot expect fairness from a corrupt man, nor can a knowledgeable man expect fairness from an ignorant man.’
